Kelsey Grammer has joined a mighty list of comedians in winning the Jack Benny Award.

Grammer won the prestigious award Tuesday from the University of California, Los Angeles. The award recognized him for outstanding achievements in comedy.Grammer is best known for his portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane on "Cheers" and the spinoff "Frasier," which earned him an Emmy last year.

The Jack Benny Award was established in 1977 by UCLA and Mary Benny, the comedian's widow. Previous winners include Johnny Carson, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, George Burns and Lily Tomlin.
