Henry C. Engh, 83, known to many friends and customers as "Hank the Petunia King," died July 2, 1996, in a Salt Lake care center.

A son of Norwegian immigrants, Mr. Engh began work in the floral and greenhouse business at age 8, shortly after the death of his mother. His floral operations were once located at 1000 S. Main. They were later moved to 2098 E. 3900 South. When the floral and other businesses closed at that location in the 1980s, Mr. Engh continued his greenhouses near his home on 2000 East.

For many years, Engh Floral sponsored large floats bedecked with petunias and other live plants in the Days of '47 Parade. The floats won ribbons and trophies every year.

"Several thousand workers, including many young people, learned the floral business and acquired the love and skill of work from my father," said a son, David C. Engh.
