The A-League's Rochester Rhinos upset the Tampa Bay Mutiny on Saturday night in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals, beating the MLS team 4-3 on Chris Kennell's goal with 7:28 left in the second overtime.
The improbable victory for the Rhinos, who play in a second-division league, was watched by a crowd of 12,428 at Frontier Field, Rochester's new downtown stadium where the Rhinos have won 10 of 11 games.Rhinos goalie Billy Andracki made a season-high 20 saves as Tampa Bay outshot Rochester 25-17. Doug Miller had two goals for Rochester and Henry Gutierrez also scored. Roy Lassiter, Carlos Valderrama and Evans Wise scored for Tampa Bay.
Revolution 2, Burn 0
At Dallas, Darren Sawatzky and Imad Baba scored first-half goals and Aidan Heaney made 13 saves as the New England Revolution beat the Dallas Burn.
New England tied New York-New Jersey for third place in the Eastern Division with 33 points. New England has nine victories, six shootout victories and 14 losses.
Dallas remained in a second-place tie with Kansas City in the Western Division with 40 points, just one behind first-place Kansas City. Dallas has 12 victories, four shootout victories and 13 losses.
Crew 5, Wiz 1
At Kansas City, Mo., Brian Maisonneuve scored three goals as the Columbus Crew beat the Kansas City Wiz to improve to 13-16.
Marcelo Carrera opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a left-footer to the upper corner of the net, and Maisonneuve made it 2-0 in the 39th minute with a ball to the far post.
Maisonneuve's second score came three minutes into the second half when he dribbled around Samuel Ekeme and launched a 17-yard shot into the net.
