A funeral will be today for Floyd E. Breinholt, former professor and chairman of the Brigham Young University art department, who died Jan. 29, 1997, of cancer at his Provo home.
The services for Mr. Breinholt, 81, will be held at 1 p.m. in the Oak Hills 6th Ward LDS chapel, 2000 N. 1500 East, Provo, where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.Mr. Breinholt was born in Ephraim, attended Snow College and graduated in 1937 from Brig-ham Young University, where he taught 21 years. In 1953 he received a master of education degree from BYU. He had studied at the Art Center School in Los Angeles and the Art Students League in New York City.
He taught at Manti Junior High School and Farrer Junior High and Provo High School, both in Provo. Also, he had been principal of Joaquin Elementary and Central Junior High, both in Provo. After retiring in 1981 from BYU, he continued to paint and teach, conducting several week-long workshops. And for many years Mr. Breinholt was a BYU Education Week instructor.
Mr. Breinholt said in one Deseret News interview that "everybody ought to paint, because it enriches your life. And if you have a successful painting, that's a bonus."
He was president of the Utah Art Educators Association, Provo Education Association and the Provo Art Board. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a bishop, bishop's counselor, high councilor and teacher.
