The prospective trade which would have sent outfielder Greg Vaughn and two minor leaguers from the San Diego Padres to New York for pitcher Kenny Rogers and second baseman Mariano Duncan, will not take place, the Yankees announced Saturday.

"The conditions precedent to the completion of the trade cannot be satisfied," Rick Cerrone, director of Yankees media relations, said in a statement.Although Cerrone would not confirm the reason for the deal falling through, it was widely speculated that Vaughn, who was scheduled to have his physical Saturday, didn't pass it, probably because of an injured right shoulder.

Both Rogers, who was also to have a physical Saturday, and Duncan had said their goodbyes to teammates when informed of the impending deal during the Toronto Blue Jays-Yankees game Friday night and left SkyDome prior to the conclusion of the game.
