Last year: Phil Mickelson won his fourth 1996 title, shooting 70-66-68-70 for a 6-under 274 total. Duffy Waldorf, Steve Stricker and Billy Mayfair tied for second, three strokes back.

Last week: Davis Love III won the PGA Championship for his first major title, beating Justin Leonard by five strokes at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Love shot 66-71-66-66 for an 11-under 269 total.

Greater Vancouver Open

Site: Surrey, British Columbia.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Northview Country Club, Ridge Course (6,817 yards, par 71).

Purse: $1.5 million.

Winner's Share: $270,000.

Television: None.

Last year: Guy Boros won the inaugural tournament, closing with a par 71 for a one-stroke victory over Lee Janzen, Emlyn Aubrey and Taylor Smith. Boros, the son of late tour star Julius Boros, had a 12-under 272 total.

LPGA TOUR

Star Bank LPGA Classic

Site: Beavercreek, Ohio.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Country Club of the North (6,331 yards, par 72).

Purse: $550,000.

Winner's Share: $82,500.

Television: None.

Last year: English star Laura Davies won her fourth 1996 title, closing with a 2-under 70 for a 12-under 204 total. Maggie Will and Pat Hurst tied for second, three strokes back.

Last week: Australia's Karrie Webb won the Women's British Open for the second time in three years. Webb shot 65-70-63-71 for a tournament-record 19-under 269 total. Rosie Jones finished second, eight strokes back.

SENIOR PGA TOUR

St. Luke's Classic

Site: Belton, Mo.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Loch Lloyd Country Club (6,539 yards, par 70).

Purse: $1 million.

Winner's Share: $150,000.

Television: ESPN (Friday, 2-4 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 5:30-7 p.m.).

Last year: Dave Eichelberger won his second senior title, shooting 64-68-68 for a 10-under 200 total. Jim Colbert finished two stokes back.

Last week: Gil Morgan won the First of America Classic at Ada, Mich., for his fourth title of the year and fifth since turning 50 last September. He had a 9-under 207 total for a one-stroke victory over Bob Duval.
