Elder Paul Harold Dunn of Highland, Utah, died January 9, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born April 24, 1924, in Provo, Utah, a son of Joshua Harold Dunn and Geneve Roberts Dunn. He married Jeanne Cheverton on February 27, 1946.Surviving are his wife Jeanne; his three daughters, Janet (Gary) Gough, Marsha (Jeril) Winget, and Kellie (Mike) McIntosh; his ten grandchildren, Carolyn, Travis, and Tyler Gough; Tamie Winget Peters (Austin); Jeremy, Brad (Malissa), and Mark Winget; Brandon, Adam, and Jonathan McIntosh; and his two brothers, Robert E. and David (Michelle) Dunn.
His professional baseball career was interrupted by World War II. Following his service in the United States Army he continued playing professional baseball. He received a BA in religion from Chapman College, an MA and a doctorate degree in education from the University of Southern California. As a pioneer in Church education, he was instrumental in the development of the seminary and institute programs and loved teaching courses in both. In 1964 he was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later into the Council of the Seventy. He was able to incorporate his love of America and his love for the Church during his service as a mission president in the New England mission from 1968 to 1971. He will be remembered as a leader, author and educator.
His personal passions were teaching and his love of young people. As a master of application, he connected people with principles and used personal experiences to demonstrate doctrines of the gospel. The hallmarks of his life were his sense of humor and his unique adaptability in all life situations, his generosity and love of his family, and his abiding testimony of the Savior.
There will be a viewing at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, on Monday, Jan. 12, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Jan. 13, 1998, at 12 noon in the Highland East Stake Center, 4679 W. Wasatch, (11000 North), Highland, Utah (adjacent to Alpine, UT) Interment, Wasatch Lawn, 3401 Highland Dr. SLC, UT.
