Our beloved son, father and dear friend Tim Hynes gave his life on January 11, 1998, attempting to rescue a person in need.

Tim was born in Hastings, Nebraska, August 31, 1952, to Raymond T. and Marie Hynes. Graduated from Kearns High School in 1970. Served his country in Vietnam. Attended Weber State University and the University of Utah.

Tim lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, tennis, bicycling and softball. He was a devoted father to his two children and a caring son for his mother. Preceded in death by his father in 1995.

Tim joined the Salt Lake City Fire Department in 1976 and was certified as a Paramedic from Weber State University in 1978. He was promoted to Captain and served as Director of the Medical Division in 1990. In 1995, he was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief where he served as Director of the Research and Project Development Division.

Tim was dedicated to making the emergency medical system in Salt Lake City, and the State of Utah, one of the finest in the nation. He was instrumental in obtaining the current Accreditation of Salt Lake City's 911 Dispatch Center and helped create one of the most comprehensive Quality Assurance Programs for EMT's and Paramedics in the country.

Tim was also employed as a Flight Paramedic for the University of Utah Hospital Air Med Program. He served in that capacity for 15 years.

He served as Chair of the State Fire Caucus, Co., Chair of the Interhospital Committee and Vice President and President of the National Flight Paramedic Association.

He is survived by his mother; son, Jared Hynes; daughter, Jamie Hynes; and best friend, Sonia Russell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, 1998, 12 Noon at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and Friday at the Stake Center from 10-11:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Intermountain Burn Center at the University of Utah Hospital.
