Joseph Foss Cowley was born March 20, 1906 in Preston, Idaho; the son of Matthias Foss and Luella Smart Parkinson Cowley. He married Marian Bennion on September 18, 1931 and over the last 67 years they have supported and loved four children, 23 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He has had joy and rejoicing in his posterity and on January 16, 1998 he passed away peacefully at his home.
His life has been full of caring service; first to his eternal sweetheart, then his children, then The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; then his profession, certified public accounting. He has also served and treasured his association with his alma mater-Utah State University; and his colleagues in real estate, Sigma Chi, sports, and neighbors. He loved to compete on the golf course, the tennis court, the handball court, and the Snake River; where the outcome was never affected by time. As long as there was one more hole to play, or one more point to go, or one more fish to catch, he was always at his best when the contest was finished. Such it is with his passing.
He is survived by his wife Marian; sons, Joseph F. Jr. (Gwen), Edwin B. (Lana); daughters, Mary Clayton (Paul), Scarsdale, NY; Laura Hansen (Royal); 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 20, 1998, 12 noon, at the University Ward, 160 South University Street (1350 East). Friends may call from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the University Ward and Monday evening, January 19, 1998 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South.
