Sen. Strom Thurmond wants to know what the fuss is about.
The 95-year-old South Carolina Republican returned to work one day after leaving the hospital, calling a news conference Monday to show he has recovered from the respiratory infection."Can't a person be 95 and enjoy good health and be normal?" he asked. "I wanted you to see me in good health."
Thurmond was elected in 1996 to his eighth term and has served nearly 43 years, longer than anyone in Senate history. He will be 100 years old if he completes his current term running through 2002.
