David Wu became the first Chinese-American to be elected to the U.S. House and preserved a seat for the Democrats.

Wu's victory was announced Thursday in the last congressional race left to be decided. His election means that the new House will be made up of 223 Republicans, 211 Democrats and one independent. The outgoing House has 228 Republicans, 206 Democrats and one independent.Wu, a 43-year-old lawyer for high-tech companies, defeated Republican political consultant Molly Bordonaro 53 percent to 44 percent in a sometimes nasty race that included attack ads on both sides.
