The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has sent a second shipment of humanitarian aid to the victims of Hurricane Mitch.

Two trucks carrying food, soap, dehydration kits and medical supplies left Salt Lake City Thursday en route to Denver. There, some 80,000 pounds of supplies will be loaded on a plane to be flown to Managua, Nicaragua, on Saturday.Monday, six container loads of clothing, food, bedding and shelter supplies were sent by truck to Gulfport, Miss. to be shipped by boat to Honduras.

The LDS Church plans to send another 280,000 pounds of supplies to Tegucigalpa and Le Ceiba, Honduras, within the next week, church officials said in a prepared statement released Thursday.

To assist with relief efforts, Utahns can contribute to the Humanitarian Aid Fund at LDS Church Headquarters, the International Red Cross or other relief agencies, the statement said.
