A woman who cannot have children was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a pregnant teenager whose full-term fetus was cut from her womb.
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for Felecia Scott, but Judge Gay Lake Jr. followed the jury's recommendation to spare her life. Scott showed no emotion as the decision was read Monday.A jury convicted Scott, 31, in September of fatally shooting 17-year-old Carethia Curry and slicing the fetus from her womb to remove the baby girl, who she pretended was her own. The child, now 2 1/2 lives with her father.
Prosecutors said Scott, who had a hysterectomy five years ago, became obsessed with having a third child and befriended Miss Curry once she learned the teenager was pregnant.
