Phase-in extended for 435 area code

Thanks to an order from the Utah Public Service Commission, Utahns will have an extra six months to get used to using the new 435 telephone area code.

The order extends a phase-in period when callers have the option of using the old 801 code or the new 435 number when placing calls to locations in Utah outside Weber, Morgan, Davis, Salt Lake and Utah counties.March 22 was the original date when using the new area code was mandatory when calling Utah's so-called rural counties, but the order extends the deadline to Sept. 20. The extension will allow all telephone users more time to prepare for the new area code.
