Under the direction of Spike Lee, the performers will include not only Pavarotti but also Jon Bon Jovi, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, the Spice Girls, Vanessa Williams, Stevie Wonder and Trisha Yearwood.The concert will raise funds to construct the Pavarotti and Friends Liberian Children's Village, to resettle refugees from Liberia's civil war.
The concert and subsequent album are to benefit the international aid agency War Child, which is overseeing fund raising for the construction project.
