Utah is so intoxicated with the Republican Party today that our history is being revised. When archconservative Barry Goldwater died, KSL-TV's "eyewitness" news reported that Utah was one of the six states that voted for him in the 1964 presidential election. Believe it or not, only Arizona, his home state, and five Southern states, which supported his stand against civil rights legislation, voted for him. Yes, as shocking as it may seem, Utah voted for the liberal Democrat, Lyndon B. Johnson, in 1964, when the state was even more predominately LDS.
