For the record, Kool-Aid is the official soft drink of Nebraska.

The animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made a mistake Tuesday in a note to Gov. Ben Nelson, thanking him for not choosing milk as the official state beverage.Nelson awarded the soft drink designation to Kool-Aid in May, saying he wanted to honor the sugary-sweet drink that was invented in Hastings in 1927. On May 22, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Nelson had designated Kool-Aid as the official state beverage.

Whatever the title, Nelson spokesman Karl Bieber said the governor likes Kool-Aid - and milk.

"The governor has not been approached to make milk the official drink, but he didn't do this to slight milk at all," Bieber said Tuesday. "He is a milk drinker."
