FOOTBALL COACHES HIRED: Utah State football coach Mick Dennehy has announced the hiring of three more assistant coaches to complete his defensive coaching staff.David Reeves will be the assistant head coach and linebackers coach, Derrick Odum will oversee the secondary, and Carl Franks will be in charge of safeties and defensive special teams. This group joins defensive coordinator Kraig Paulson and Tom McMahon, who will serve as the recruiting coordinator and more than likely coach defensive linemen.
Reeves spent the past 11 seasons at Montana, including the last nine as the team's linebackers coach. The 33-year-old was a four-year letterman at Montana from 1984-87 and then worked as a graduate assistant for three seasons before assuming a full-time position in 1991.
Odum was the secondary coach at Montana for two years after working at Utah as a graduate assistant from 1996-97. Odum played at Utah from 1988-92 playing cornerback and returning kickoffs. The 29-year-old was also a four-year letterman on the Ute baseball team.
Franks was an assistant defensive backs coach and defensive special teams coach at Montana for the past three years. He was an all-Big Sky pick in 1993 while playing for the Grizzlies in 1992 and 1993.
BYU
WRESTLING: Powered by four consecutive wins by their big men, Boise State defeated BYU to earn its first dual meet of the season and drop the Cougars to 1-2 on the season.
The Cougars shot out to an early 7-3 lead in the first three matches, as a Rocky Smart loss to No. 4 Larry Quisel was sandwiched by wins by Rangi Smart and Chris Risenmay. Rangi Smart caught a break when defending national champion Kirk White withdrew from competition because of a shoulder injury sustained at last week's Las Vegas Invitational.
Kyle Klonizos got things going for Boise State with a 9-5 win over Mitch Stevens at 174 pounds. The Cougars lost three more in the heavyweight classes as Adam Bendorf fell to Cash Edwards (15-6), while Brandon Ruiz suffered a 23-7 technical fall to No. 7 Rusty Cook.
Wyoming
DIMEL HIRED BY HOUSTON: Dana Dimel was to be introduced today as the University of Houston's new football coach.
University officials announced Sunday that the Wyoming head coach will succeed Kim Helton as the Cougars' coach.
