LOGAN, UT: Maria Smith Ellsworth passed away at her home in Logan on December 1, 1999.
She was born near her grandmother's ranch in Hunt, Arizona, on August 9, 1918, a daughter of Asahel Henry Smith and Pauline Udall Smith, descendants of Mormon pioneers in the region. She was the fifth of nine children. She attended school in Snowflake, Arizona, and earned a BA degree in education from Arizona Teachers' College at Flagstaff.She married S. George Ellsworth on October 24, 1942 in the Arizona LDS Temple. He passed away on December 22, 1997. They had a long and happy marriage, encouraging and supporting each other through trials and triumphs for 55 years. George's military service and graduate studies took them from Nevada to California and Utah. They lived for a time in Bunkerville, Nevada, where George taught school.
Maria is survived by her two sons, Mark Addison and Alison of Portland, OR, and Stephen George and Trudie of Minneapolis, MN;
four grandchildren, Guinevere Julia, Margaret Ellen, Andrew Mark, and Joseph Henry; two brothers, Richard A. Smith (Doris), Provo, UT; and A. Marion Smith (Wanda), Mesa, AZ; one sister, Ida Church (Howard), Mesa, AZ. Five brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at 12 noon in the Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 502 E. 300 North St. with Bishop Bruce Crane conducting. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and at the ward Tuesday one hour prior to service. Burial in the Logan City Cemetery.
