MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Stephon Marbury was traded to the New Jersey Nets on Thursday in an eight-player deal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks.

Marbury, who helped turn the Timberwolves into one of the most exciting teams in the West, moves to the Nets along with guard Chris Carr and forward Bill Curley. The Wolves get point guard Terrell Brandon from Milwaukee and forward Brian Evans and two draft choices from the Nets, including a first-rounder.The Nets also send Sam Cassell and Chris Gatling to the Bucks, who also get Paul Grant from the Wolves.

Marbury, a Brooklyn native, said he planned to fly cross country and join the Nets for their game Friday at Philadelphia and would immediately sign a long-term extension with the Nets.

CAVS TRADE POTAPENKO: The Cavaliers acquired Andrew DeClercq and a first-round draft pick from Boston in a trade Thursday for Vitaly Potapenko.

The 6-foot-10, Ukrainian-born Potapenko has played in all 17 Cleveland games this season, averaging 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The 6-10 DeClercq has averaged 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 14 games for Boston.

SIXERS SWAP WITH BUCKS: The Philadelphia 76ers sent forwards Tim Thomas and Scott Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks for forwards Tyrone Hill and Jerald Honeycutt.

Thomas, the seventh pick in the 1997 draft by New Jersey, had fallen into a mopup role after being tabbed as the cornerstone of a trade in which the Sixers parted with the draft rights to Van Horn two years ago.

Hill, who turns 31 next week, was an All-Star with Cleveland in 1995 before he was traded to the Bucks with Brandon in the deal that sent Vin Baker to Seattle and Shawn Kemp to the Cavaliers.

KNICKS EXTEND CAMBY: The New York Knicks made two moves Thursday, signing Marcus Camby to a six-year, $39 million extension and obtaining the rights to Mirsad Turkcan from Philadelphia for a first-round draft pick.

MACK RETURNS TO ROCKETS: The Vancouver Grizzlies traded Sam Mack to his former team Thursday, sending the shooting guard to the Houston Rockets for second-year swingman Rodrick Rhodes.
