WINAIR ATTRACTS NEW FUNDS AS OUTSIDE INVESTORS JUMP IN
WinAir Airlines, a charter service that started offering flights between Salt Lake City and Long Beach, Calif., in November 1998, has received a first phase of funding from outside investors.Details of the investment were not disclosed Thursday, but a press release from the privately held airline said it previously was financed almost entirely by Richard Winwood, co-founder of Franklin Covey Co.
WinAir will try to attract more outside capital to finance additional planes so it can serve more cities, the release said. The Long Beach-based airline now provides Boeing 737 jet service to Las Vegas, Sacramento and Salt Lake City.
"We believe that our higher-than-forecasted load factors and revenue yields have contributed to the interest we are receiving from the investment community," Larry Gelwix, WinAir chairman, said in a prepared statement.
