PROVO -- The old LeMar's Nightclub on Center Street is being remade as a Cajun restaurant-bar-dance club called Atchafalhya.
Atchafalhya will not have topless dancers, which were the focal point of a lengthy court battle involving LeMar's owner LeMar Driggs."The only thing shakin' here is the crawfish before they're thrown in the pot," said new owner Troy Gifford.
Gifford spent half his life in Louisiana and the other half in Utah. He owns another bar-restaurant in Lafayette, La., called Jim's Lounge.
The restaurant-club is to open July 9.
LeMar's was picketed two years ago for having scantily clad dancers. In December 1997, the city passed an ordinance requiring sexually oriented businesses to operate only in the industrial sections of the city.
LeMar's filed suit against the city in April 1998 challenging the ordinance. In May 1998, a 4th District judge ruled the club had to remove the dancers while it challenged the ordinance.
LeMar's dropped the case and the dancers.
