Almyria Zertuche, 24, and Harold Darien Leontay Hayes Sr. admire their new son in the Spectrum Health downtown campus in Grand Rapids, Mich. They named their 6-pound, 12-ounce son after the father, but the couple says they will nickname him "Lucky." That's because he developed in his mother's abdominal cavity instead of her womb, where normal babies develop. The birth of a healthy baby in a case like this is almost unheard of, says Dr. Robert Hayashi, director of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. Both mother and baby are doing fine.
