LAYTON--Leonard "Lee" Paul Erkelens, beloved husband, son, father, and grandfather, age 55, passed away Thursday, September 2, 1999 in Ogden, due to injuries sustained in a fall.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Leonard and Mary Strevay Erkelens. He married Janean "Jeanie" Cahoon July 18, 1975 in Ogden, Utah. Lee was reared and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden high School in 1962. He attended Weber State University. He was a Wage Board Supervisor, Sheet Metal Mechanic and had worked at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He enjoyed rebuilding cars, a general all-around handyman, enjoyed working around the home, building special projects and taking care of his family.Lee is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Janean "Jeanie", Layton; three sons, Layne (Kim) Cahoon and Jeffrey (Lisa) Erkelens, both of Bountiful, Utah, and Landon Erkelens, Layton, Utah; two daughters, Lindsay (Dan) Stalter, and Jessica Erkelens, both of Layton, Utah; three grandchildren, Charyssa, Cody and Alexis. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Erkelens, N. Ogden, Utah; sister, Mary Lynn (Rudy) Eilander, N. Ogden, Utah; father and mother-in-law, Roland and Alice Cahoon, of Layton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard "Erk" Erkelens and infant daughter, Alison Marie Erkelens.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
