Mike De Vries, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at home from cancer. He was 59 years old.
Mike was born August 27, 1940 in Rotterdam, Holland to John and Grace De Vries. He moved with his family to Utah in 1950.Mike was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church and it was an important part of his life. His greatest love was his family. He was involved in his children's and grandchildren's school and church activities. His dedication included donating a kidney to his brother. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, hiking and snowmobiling.
Mike worked for EIMCO for 10 years. He worked for Kennecott until he became ill. The family wishes to thank all of his friends and co-workers for their concern and encouragement during his brief illness.
Mike is survived by his wife, Grace; and three children, all of Salt Lake City: Michael Todd De Vries, Jeffrey Scott (Heather) De Vries, and Melanie Joy De Vries; and three wonderful granddaughters. Those who also held a special place in his heart were Jenny McDonald, Sean Williford and Joshua Higgins. Additional survivors are his four brothers: John (Carol) De Vries, Jack (Carol) De Vries, Jerry (Carol) De Vries and Ben (Phyllis) De Vries; and mother-in-law, Mary Vander Hoek.
Family graveside services will be conducted Friday, January 21, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. where friends may call Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Friday. A memorial service will follow the graveside service at the First Christian Reformed Church, 803 E. 900 S. Salt Lake City.
