Robert W. Stum, age 80, of Provo, passed away December 16, 2000.

He was born Jan 22, 1920 in Provo, UT son of Olive and Samual Stum. He married Gladys An-dersen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1946. Robert lived a full, active life. He became an avid photo-grapher while still in high school. He at-tended BYU and then focused his schooling in photography at the Art Center in Los Angeles. In 1951, he became a partner in a commercial portrait studio, Biddulph-Stum Photography located in Provo. A few years later he joined the Motion Picture Department at BYU as head cinematographer. He maintained this position for 28 years, filming over 150 motion pictures such as Johnny Lingo, Windows of Heaven, and Man's Search for Happiness. He directed several films as well. Robert taught cinematographer at BYU, and through his deep love for his profession influenced many to succeed in this profession. His job gave him the opportunity to film throughout the United States and in many countries of the world. He served on the Board of Directors of the BYU Emeritus Association and received various awards for excellence and service given in his field. He received several awards for community service.

Robert found joy in carpentry, camping, and traveling. He built a cabin which he enjoyed for many years, sharing his love of the outdoors with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Robert was a devoted Latter-day Saint and served in many callings on ward and stake levels. He served for several years at the missionary training center. He and his wife, Gladys, served two missions in West Africa. They also served as ordinance workers in the Provo LDS Temple.

Robert and Gladys have two sons and three daughters: Karl (Marsha) Stum, Vancouver, WA, Richard (Rebecca) Stum, Mt. Pleasant, Susan (Lowell) Bishop, Lindon, Julie (Dale) DeLlamas, Springville, Sherri (Terry) Hafen, Mapleton. They were blessed with 30 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; and brother, George Williams Stum, Petaluma, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Johns.

Services will be Thurs. Dec 21, 2000, 11 a.m. in the Grandview 9th Ward LDS Chapel, 1555 N. 1350 W. Provo. Friends may call at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary at 495 S. State St, Orem, Wed. 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the chapel.

The family would like to thank the IHC Hospice aids and nurses for all their many hours of exceptional tender care and kindness to Robert and Gladys.
