Our dear sweetheart, dad, and grandpa, Walter Manning Hampton Jr., returned to the open arms of family and friends on April 11, 2000 at the age of 74.

Walter was born to Zora Chase Wood and Walter M. on October 26, 1925.He served an LDS mission in Florida, and came to love the state. He was an "old time" shoe salesman and loved his jobs at Edison Brothers, Karl's, and Gallenkamps Shoes. Nobody could fit you in a pair of shoes like Dad.

Walter attended Hollywood High and was also a big fan of the late and present Hollywood stars in California. He took pride in knowing many of them personally. Walter also loved Big Band music and knew many of the bands like Les Brown, Russ Morgan, and Sammy Kaye.

Walter was preceded in death by his mom; dad; good friend, Buddy Lilliwick; sister, Zora Leen; and two sons, Scott Chase and Max Omar.

He has left behind his wife, Verna; sons, Wade, Salt Lake; Brent (Laurie), Newberg, Oregon; Roger (Flor), Midvale; daughter, Tonya, Taylorsville; grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Kimberly, all of Newberg, Oregon; and Jeremy, Midvale.

Graveside services will be held Fri, April 14, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "N" Street. Friends may call Friday 12 noon-1:30 p.m. at McDougal West Jordan Mortuary 1861 West 7800 South.
