Together Again

True to her gentle nature, Laura Fern

Bagley Barney, 86, passed away quietly in her sleep the morning of August 31, 2000.

A wife and mother of supreme goodness and unending love, we find comfort and happiness in the fulfilling of her desire to join her eternal companion Ralph Shupe Barney. Mom was born April 18, 1914 during a terrible rainstorm in Baker, Oregon. She was born in a 70 year old log cabin that leaked so badly, her sister, Velma, had to hold an umbrella over the bed during her birth. One of twelve children, her childhood years were spent in rural Oregon where she and her brothers and sisters enjoyed the pleasures of the great outdoors and the hard work of farm living.

In 1927 the Bagley family moved to Oakland, California where Mom put to use her many talents, including her musical gifts. She played the piano for her ward from the time she was 13, and continued to do so throughout her life. When she was 18, Mom was called to serve in the Northern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While working in the mission office, Elder Ralph S. Barney, who had already served 30 months on a mission there in the Northern States Mission, was called back to serve an additional year. After hearing him speak, Mom knew he was the man for her. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 6, 1935. Throughout her life, Mom untiringly served her family, church, and all around her.
