Redbirds 11, Indians 4

LAS VEGAS — Larry Sutton homered twice in Memphis' 13-hit attack as the Redbirds beat the Indianapolis Indians 11-4 Wednesday and staved off elimination in the Triple-A World Series.

The Indians still hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 series that continues with Game 4 Thursday night at Cashman Field.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Redbirds scored four times off Indianapolis starter Allen Levrault with a two-out rally highlighted by Luis Garcia's two-run triple.

The Indians came back with a run in the fifth as Santiago Perez hit a solo home run off Redbirds starter Clint Weibl. But in the bottom of the inning, Memphis again scored four runs, beginning with Sutton's leadoff homer to right.

The Redbirds got to reliever Reggie Harris for three more runs in the sixth as Sutton hit a two-run shot to right-center and Darrell Whitmore followed with a solo homer to put Memphis up 11-3.

Before the game, it was announced that the format for the 2001 Triple-A World Series will be switched to a best-of-3 during the weekend of Sept. 16-18 in Las Vegas.
