A new Boy Scout district has been created with the division of the Alpine Scouting District.

It became effective Jan. 1, spokesman Ron Nyman said.

The new Silver Lake District comprises Scouting units in American Fork, closely following the boundaries of American Fork High School's enrollment area. Officers include Phil Adamson as chairman; George Fanning, commissioner; and Larry Bethers, executive.

The new district will serve 2,300 Scouts in 169 troops, Cub Scout packs, Ventures Crews and Varsity Teams, Nyman said.

Grant Bangerter was named Alpine Scouting District chairman; Klaus Goeckeritz, commissioner; and Randy Keyes, executive. The Alpine District follows the enrollment boundaries of Lone Peak High School, excluding Cedar Hills, but including Highland and Alpine. The Alpine District will now serve 2,400 Scouts and 148 troops, Cub Scout packs, Ventures Crews and Varsity Teams.
