Salt Lake City's Gateway opened its doors to the public Thursday. Sixty of the project's 84 retailers celebrated their grand openings. Among the major retailers now open are Barnes & Noble, Banana Republic and Galyan's Sporting Goods. The $375 million project, built by Salt Lake-based Boyer Co., includes 400,000 square feet of office space, 675,000 of retail and entertainment space, and high-end condominiums and apartments available next spring. The strategically placed Gateway — near the Delta Center and the end of the TRAX light-rail line — is expected to generate $20 million annually in sales taxes and another $5 million in real estate taxes.
