Snowbasin Ski Area will remain Snowbasin . . . but with a tag.

Responding to discussions over a possible name change, to "Sun Valley Utah," resort general manager Gray Reynolds announced Wednesday that the owners had reached a decision.

And the name: "Snowbasin, A Sun Valley Resort."

Last year, Earl Holding — who owns the resort and also Idaho's Sun Valley, one of the most recognized ski areas in the world — considered a name change.

Residents of Ketchum, Sun Valley's host city, were not particularly pleased about sharing the name. Nor were long-time patrons of the Utah resort happy about a change. Along with the tag line, Snowbasin will also adopt the Sun Valley trademark, which is a picture of a sun.

"Because of skiing's relationships with Sun Valley here in North America as a world class resort," said Reynolds, "we've taken on the name and begin our major journey to becoming a world-class resort."

New banners with the name and logo were in place for Thursday's World Cup practice runs.
