Big-D Construction has promoted William L. Smith Jr. to chief executive officer.

Smith has been with the Salt Lake-based company for 15 years, most recently as president of Big-D Fastrack Corp. and prior to that as vice president of Big-D. Corp.

The company said Tuesday that his job will be to make the $200 million company even more successful.

"This is a great time for Big-D," Smith said. "Our strategy of providing the industry's most complete bundle of services continues to reward us with success."

Since opening in 1967, Big-D has become one of the Mountain West's largest contractors, with projects in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Tucson, Ariz., among others.
