NEW YORK (AP) — The 6-year-old daughter of an Italian opera tenor must be returned to Italy because the mother who brought her here had no right to do so, a federal judge ruled.
The singer, Fabio Armiliato, 44, had asked U.S. District Judge William Pauley to return the girl, Alessandra, after his estranged wife fled Italy with her in December. The mother and child have lived in Manhattan since.
The judge said in a written decision Thursday that the mother, Irena Zaric, 40, breached her husband's rights of custody when she determined the child's residence without Armiliato's consent.
