ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — When the little boy swung the yardstick up and down, repeatedly striking the chest of the officer on the ground, police say they knew the 6-year-old child had killed his 3-year-old brother.
"I've been a police officer for 25 years, and I've seen nothing like this in my career," Rochester Police Chief Robert Duffy said Thursday, a day after the 6-year-old re-enacted the beating.
According to police, the 3-year-old threw a stone at his older brother, who retaliated by throwing a brick and repeatedly striking the child with a wooden baseball bat.
After the beating, the toddler returned home but became lethargic and fell asleep on the sofa. He was found dead in bed the next morning.
The toddler died of blunt trauma to the abdomen, which caused internal bleeding, according to the medical examiner's report.
