Byron B. Burmester, Jr. age 71 finally succumbed to the devastating effects of A.L.S.

Byron was born to Byron Burmester and Maurine Burmester November 30, 1929. An excellent athlete and tremendous scholar, Byron played several varsity sports and graduated with honors from Wasatch Academy and then attended Westminster College. Byron met the love of his life, Barbara Meissner at Westminster and they were married June 18, 1952.

Byron graduated with honors from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School.

He served his country in the United States Army at Camp Irwin, California before returning to Utah in 1958.

Upon his return to Utah, Byron established a dental practice in downtown Salt Lake City where he faithfully served the community with love and care until he retired in 1994. Byron was a leader within

his profession and loved his colleagues. With his close friend, Dr. James

Nielson, Byron founded the Dissident Dental Society.

Byron was an avid skier, duck hunter and tennis player and had many friends with whom he shared these passions.

He was a member of Wasatch Lodge #1 F. & A.M. He is survived by his 98 year old mother, wife, sister, Anne Bergera, daughter, Shelly, daughter-in-law, Karen, son, Fred and granddaughters Ondrea and Jori.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 6, 2001, 1:00 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City.
