ROWE, N.M. (AP) — A 7-year-old private school aimed at preparing American Indian students for college is closing because of financial troubles.
The governing board of Native American Preparatory School voted unanimously over the weekend to shut the school at least for the 2002-2003 academic year.
Native American Prep was begun in 1995 by Dartmouth College alumnus Richard Ettinger. He chaired the board of Educational Foundation of America, which pledged $1 million a year to the school over five years.

The school has been plagued by deficits since the foundation grant ended. Fund-raisers could not come up with the needed money.
