End of October: Following Utah's 42-35 double-overtime loss at New Mexico, McBride said athletic director Chris Hill offered him a reassignment package. Hill said it went beyond McBride's current contract, which was to run through next season.
Wednesday, Nov. 20: In their regular Wednesday meeting, Hill again offered McBride the reassignment deal, which McBride refused because he's doesn't view himself as a quitter and didn't want his players to think of him that way.
Friday, Nov. 22: Deseret News columnist Doug Robinson writes of McBride's heretofore secret reassignment offer from Hill.
Saturday, Nov. 23: Utah beats archrival BYU, 13-6. Players, then fans, carry him around the field on their shoulders; fans tear down both goalposts and try to give them to McBride.
Monday, 11:30 a.m.: McBride meets with Hill and finds out he's been fired. He calls wife Vicky to let her know.
Monday, 2 p.m.: McBride informs his players and staff in a team meeting.
Tuesday, all day: McBride was to conduct regular individual end-of-the-season player meetings and perhaps begin packing up his things.
