HACKENSACK, N.J. (Reuters) — A New Jersey man who shot his former girlfriend to death as she posed for pictures in her wedding gown hours before she was to marry received a life prison sentence Friday for the 1999 killing.
Dominican-born Agustin Garcia, 49, a former leader in the New York and New Jersey Dominican-American communities and former owner of a travel agency and accounting firm, will not be eligible for parole for 31 years and four months, Bergen County prosecutor Fred Schwanwede said.
Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty at the request of the victim's family.
