Ruth Clawson Kovalenko received her final transfer on February 27, 2002 at age 91.
The eldest of seven children of Lawrence and Hannah Allen Clawson, Ruth entered the world in Thatcher, Arizona Territory on August 30, 1910.
She graduated from Phoenix Union High School and Gregg Business School.
In her employment career, she worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, the O.S. Stapley Company in Phoenix as well as an escrow officer for the Bank of America branches in San Clemente, Laguna Beach, and Corona del Mar, CA. Ruth married Nicholas Nicolaiyevich Kovalenko (aka Nicholas Kregg) of Melitopol, Ukraine,
January 23, 1932. Her husband died in Costa Mesa, California on May 13, 1964.
As a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth devoted her life in service to others. Following her retirement from the Bank of America, she served an LDS mission in Montreal, Canada.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association, Daughters of Utah Pioneers and a founding charter member of Veterans' Association for Service Activites Abroad (VASAA).
Ruth is survived by sons, Dr. Eugene N. Kovalenko, Los Alamos, N.M, Dr. Virgil N. Kovalenko, Holladay, Ut; sisters, Lucille DeWitt, Snowflake, Az, Myrtle C. Poulter, Mesa, Az; sisters-in-law, Florence J. Clawson,
Salt Lake City; Lois P. Clawson, Ivins, Ut; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grand children.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30
a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002 at the Garner Funeral Home Chapel, 1001 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City. Services in California will be at the Pacific View Memorial Park Chapel in Corona del Mar, on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service in California at Pacific View Memorial Park.
