Japanese pop star Hikaru Utada, whose debut CD "First Love" set a domestic sales record, has been hospitalized, Japanese media reported Monday.

Utada, 19, had been recovering from an operation to remove a benign tumor from one of her ovaries, but her condition suddenly worsened a few days ago, the national Yomiuri newspaper quoted the singer's record company Toshiba EMI Ltd. as saying.
