Lucille Ferrin, age 87, passed away May 29, 2002 in Long Beach, CA. Born in Salt Lake City, UT to Thom-as and Kate John-son Gibbs.

Mrs. Ferrin had a difficult life, but always over-came problems to survive and raise three children. When she and William Vance di-vorced, her father had just died, so she became the sole provider for her mother; and two children, Dick and Jim. She first worked at the old Murray laundry to earn enough money to go to school to become an accountant. Then she started at Auerbach's department stores and worked there her whole career. She married Francis Ferrin in 1951 and her daughter, Dorothy, was born in 1954. After her second husband died in 1980, she continued to support her mother, Kate Gibbs. She retired at age 66, but retirement was boring for her, so at age 67 she went back to work at ZCMI where she learned to use the computer and became an outstanding employee. She retired finally at age 78. An active member of the LDS church later in her life, she did a lot of temple work and was very firm in her beliefs. In her last two weeks, she seemed to experience a spiritual transformation and passed away very peacefully.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son, William Richard (Dick) Vance. She is survived by her loving son, James Matthew Vance; and daughter, Dorothy Jean Ferrin-Port. Dorothy and her husband, David Port, live in Denver and have a son, Alexander Port. James lives in Long Beach, CA with his companion, Douglas Hughes. She is also survived by her beloved daughter-in-law, Virginia Vance and only grandchild, Leslie Ann Vance Moffet. Leslie and her husband, Joseph Moffet, live in Taylorsville with their son, Joey Moffet. Leslie's two other children, Talya Vance and Jason Hollenbeck, live in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, respectively. Jason has a daughter named Zandria.

Mrs. Ferrin will be sorely missed by four generations of family.
