Frank R. Pignanelli, a Salt Lake attorney and former state legislator, has taken his first step to enter the Salt Lake mayoral campaign.

He announced having formally established a mayoral campaign committee Friday.

His addition will make the mayor's race at least a three-way affair, with incumbent Mayor Rocky Anderson and David Spatafore, lobbyist for the Utah League of Cities, both already organizing their campaigns.

Pignanelli said he's concerned about the current administration's failure to provide leadership and articulate a solid long-range vision for Salt Lake City.

"Salt Lake residents of every political persuasion, religious denomination and profession believe that city hall has not delivered," he said.

Pignanelli, a University of Utah graduate, is a member of the law firm Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough. He also served five terms in the Utah House of Representatives from 1986 to 1996, acting both as minority whip and minority leader. He most recently served as campaign director for Initiative No. 1, the radioactive waste control act, in the 2002 election.
