1907 ~ 2003

H. Perry Driggs, Sr. passed away peacefully Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the age of 96.

Perry was born June 24, 1907, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Dr. Howard R. Driggs and Eva Frampton Driggs. He was married to Clara Creer on September 6, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple.

He attended the University of Utah where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated from New York University earning a B.S., M.S., and M.B.A. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Phi Kappa Honorary Societies and on the faculty of New York University.

Perry joined radio station KSL as sales and production manager and was also a co-founder of radio station KVOG in Ogden, Utah. He later became an executive at the J. Walter Thompson Advertising Company in Chicago, Illinois where he worked for thirty years. He lived in Wilmette, Illinois and was active in business and community groups. He was a member of the Executive Club of Chicago, the Advertising Club of Chicago, the Glenview Golf Club, and on the Board of Trustees of the Hadley School for the Blind, a worldwide school located in Winnetka, Illinois. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Art was one of his hobbies and he had illustrations and cartoons published in "Life," "Judge," "College Humor," "The New Yorker," and "The Children's Friend" magazines. He was active in art groups wherever he lived: The Boca Raton, Florida and Battle Creek, Michigan Art Centers and The Chicago Art Institute. He enjoyed magic and was Vice President of the National Society of American Magicians and entertained our troops during World War II.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Stake Missionary, a Gospel Doctrine teacher, a Sunday School President and as the High Priests Group Leader. After retiring, he and his wife Clara moved to Salt Lake City where he was a member of the Alta Club, Mayflower Society and the Ensign Club.

His wife Clara preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sons H. Perry Driggs, Jr. of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Paul C. Driggs of Salt Lake City, Utah; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, December 29, 2003, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday, December 28, at the mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clara Creer and Perry Driggs Endowment Scholarship Fund at Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah.
