Loving Mother

Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep June 24, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah as a complication of diabetes.

She was born September 22, 1915 in Almo, Idaho to John Charles Richards and Clara Olive Bacon and married Lavar Cook McMillan in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 11, 1943. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1997.

Ruby served faithfully in many church callings and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life. She graduated from Jordan High School, attended LDS Business College then worked her way through college earning a bachelor's degree in Home Economics at Utah State Agricultural College (USU), where she also met and later married Lavar. She worked for the Federal Government in the Farm Security Administration during Lavar's military service in World War II. Following Lavar's return they settled in Roy and later in Murray, Utah to raise their family. She later earned her Masters Degree from the University of Utah in Home Economics and was an educator at the U of U and in Granite School District. She also served as a member and president of the Murray Women's Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook and was well known for her great recipes and for organizing ward and family dinners. Ruby was always cheerful, hardworking and outgoing. In her younger years Ruby loved to play softball, but her greatest treasure in life was her family.

Ruby is survived by her children: Carol (Ron) Probert, Glen (Janine), Ronald (Lynn), Bryce, Dale (Christine); 23 grandchildren; four great-grand children; brothers: John C. "Jay" (Bertha) Richards, Delos (Pat) Richards; sisters-in-law: Ilene Richards and Merle Richards. Preceded in death by an infant son: Larry Kent; brothers: Stuart, Arch, Warren; sisters Bessie, Delila Abbott and Hazel Hughes and daughter-in-law: Sharon Wilcox McMillan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 11a.m. at the Little Cottonwood 18th Ward Chapel, 6410 South 725 East, Murray, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, from 6-8 p.m., or Saturday morning at the ward chapel from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
