LAYTON — Salt Lake's Nick Carter won the sixth event of the 2003 Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series Wednesday at Valley View Golf Course by firing a 69 to claim top honors in the Boys 16-17 division with a three-day total of 210.

"I did exactly what I needed to do today," Carter said. "I hit the fairways and made some putts, and that is what counts."

Finishing second was Robbie Fillmore, also of Salt Lake City, who carded a 74 to finish six strokes back with a 216. Ramie Sprinkling, 17, of Camarillo, Calif., and Daniel Reid, 16, of Orem, tied for third at 219.

Claiming top honors in the Boys 13-15 division was Bryan Vencill, 15, of Danville, Calif., with a three-day total of 223.

Bountiful's Natalie Stone went wire-to-wire to claim the Girls 16-17 division, finishing at 236 after a final-round 81. Finishing second was Darah Newell, 16 of Helena, Mont., at 242.

Jenna Felechner, 15, of Lahaina, Hawaii, maintained her three-stroke lead from the second round to win the Girls 13-15 division at 263.

The Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series continues Tuesday and Wednesday at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
