Indiana Pacers guard Fred Jones and a brother of Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace were identified by police as participants in last month's NBA brawl, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.

Videotape of the brawl shows David Wallace, 33, of Selma, Ala., in the midst of the melee at The Palace in Auburn Hills on Nov. 19, the newspaper reported, citing an unidentified source close to the police investigation.

Police Lt. James Manning told the paper it was clear from looking at the videotape that Jones was also involved.

Ben Wallace, who rejoined the Pistons on Friday in San Antonio after a six-game suspension for shoving and throwing a wristband at Indiana forward Ron Artest, said he was unaware his brother had been identified by police.

A woman who answered the phone at David Wallace's home Saturday said he would have no comment. Last month, he denied being involved in the mayhem.

NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Saturday.

The fight among spectators and players broke out after an on-court dispute over a foul. A fan hurled a drink at Artest, who then charged into the stands, and other Pacers players and fans joined the melee. Several people, including a police officer, were hit with a chair.

Police said Monday they identified the man who threw the chair but have not released his name. Prosecutors said he could be charged with felony assault.

The Free Press said police have identified eight players and fans who prosecutors could charge in the case.

Manning said players who could be charged include Artest, Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson and David Harrison, all Pacers.

"It's a legal matter, and we have no comment," Pacers spokesman Jeff McCoy said Saturday.

HORNETS GET EXEMPTION: The Hornets received an exemption to put Jamaal Magloire on the injured list. The center will be sidelined three months with a broken right ring finger.

New Orleans also signed 6-foot-9 forward Corsley Edwards from the Continental Basketball Association.

The injured list is generally restricted to three players. Magloire joins Baron Davis, who has an inflamed disc in his lower back; Jamal Mashburn, who has an irritated right kneecap; and Rodney Rogers, who has a sprained left knee.

Magloire was hurt in the fourth quarter of the Hornets' 95-86 loss at Phoenix. The team has said the finger will be splinted for eight weeks, and Magloire will need four more weeks before he can play. The All-Star had played in 11 games this season, averaging 14 points and nine rebounds.

Edwards averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in exhibition games with the Orlando Magic this year. He averaged 20.8 points and 11.8 rebounds in four CBA games.

"Corsley is a physical player who will be able to help us in the frontcourt," general manager Allan Bristow said. "He played well with Orlando in the preseason and was dominant in the CBA when we signed him."

KNICKS HARDAWAY OUT: New York Knicks guard Penny Hardaway missed Saturday's game at Charlotte and could be out for an extended period with a strained right hamstring.

Hardaway, who said he was first injured in the preseason, will undergo a MRI after the team travels to Memphis to prepare for Tuesday's game with the Grizzlies.

"After I sat out the Boston game (Nov. 6), I told myself I will have to play with pain," Hardaway said. "But then it went from one part to three different parts of my leg. I kept playing through it, but now it's got to the point where in games it takes me so long to get warmed up I feel like I'm hurting the team by being out there."

Hardaway, who is averaging 6.6 points and 2.1 assists per game, did not rule out going on the injured list.

"I have to get this thing well," Hardaway said. "I don't want to be sitting out one game and coming back for two. I need to bring more off the bench than what I am now. It's just not going away."

The Knicks are hoping to get guard Allan Houston back at some point during their current four-game road trip. Houston has not played this season as he recovers from a knee injury.
