About 6,000 people are attending Novell Inc.'s BrainShare conference this week at the Salt Palace, including 67 industry analysts, 72 journalists, 60 sponsors and 320 Novell partners.

A total of 225 PCs and laptops are set up for attendees' use, all running Suse Linux. "This year, BrainShare doesn't do no stinkin' Windows!" chairman and chief executive officer Jack Messman told attendees Monday.

About 16,000 feet of cable and 2 miles of fiber were added to the convention center for the event.

Wireless access is available at 50 locations.

About 1,400 gallons of coffee and 5,000 gallons of beer will be served. "So much for the rumors that Utah is a dry state, huh?" Messman said. "You folks have single-handedly blasted that myth."
