Springville resident Aaron Tilton will get an early start as a state representative.

Tilton was selected to replace Rep. Calvin Bird, R-Springville, who resigned June 30, according to a Thursday news release from Gov. Olene Walker.

Tilton was to have faced Bird in the June 22 Republican primary, but Bird pulled out of the race following newspaper reports that he had solicited a prostitute in Salt Lake County.

The appointment of the 32-year-old Utah County native does not come as a surprise, since he faces no challenge for the House District 65 seat in the November election.

Tilton, who works as a marketing consultant for technology companies, has previously said that lowering taxes was his primary motivation for seeking a legislative seat. He does not have any prior elective office experience.
