B.C. OPEN: Jonathan Byrd rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt at the 15th hole Sunday to break a seven-way tie for the lead and added another birdie on the next hole to win the rain-delayed B.C. Open by one stroke over Ted Purdy.
Byrd, who entered the day with a one-shot lead, broke a tie with Purdy, Todd Fischer, Robin Freeman, Robert Gamez, Hidemichi Tanaka and Notah Begay. Purdy made it close with a 13-foot birdie putt at No. 17 but missed a chance to force a playoff when his 3-foot putt for birdie slid past the hole at 18.
Byrd parred the final two holes to finish at 20-under 268 for his second PGA victory and took home the winner's share of $540,000. Fischer (65), Freeman (66), Tanaka (66) and Begay (69) tied for third at 18-under 270.
LPGA TOUR: At Vienna, Ohio, with a clap of thunder, Moira Dunn won her first LPGA tournament on her 245th try — the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic. It was her first victory in a decade on tour. She collected $150,000.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: At Bridgeport, W.Va., D.A. Points shot a 2-under-par 70 Sunday to finish at 23 under and win the inaugural Pete Dye West Virginia Classic. The $108,000 winner's check vaulted Points from eighth to first on the tour money list and made him a virtual lock for the PGA Tour next season. Points was five shots better than runner-up Nick Cassini. Darron Stiles finished third at 17 under. Vance Veazey and Jess Daley were tied for fourth at 15 under.
